Community Engagement

December was a busy month, highlighted by some community engagement.  Ms. Bakutis and her class went to the Moorings to deliver cards, read stories and sing Christmas carols.  The kids delivered pure cheer and joy, which was incredibly meaningful, according to Deb Keller (Executive Director of Bath Housing).  Ms. Pomerleau invited family into her classroom to enjoy some refreshments and listen to student poems about immigration.  Ms. Newkirk also invited family into her classroom.  Families were encouraged to make and bring in breads from around the world.  After students shared what they had learned thus far about immigration, all were invited to partake in the bread feast.  It is always a treat to witness siblings, aunts, uncles, parents and grandparents share in the students’ learning.

Dear Families,

It has been a beautiful summer in Maine, and I hope you have had the opportunity to enjoy some time in the sunshine with friends and family.  While the days are still warm, the nights are cooling off, a sure sign that fall is approaching.  Know that all of us at school have been busy preparing for a great year.
I am excited to be the new principal at Fisher Mitchell School.  Although I am new to Fisher Mitchell, I have spent the past five years as the assistant principal at Bath Middle School and Morse High School.  Before that, I was a middle school social studies teacher for twelve years.   In addition to myself,  we have some other new staff members.  Sarah Bakutis and Tanya Pomerleau are our two new third grade teachers.  Beth Kaser is our new Title 1 Teacher.  Justin Keleher is joining the special education team, and Sharon Mitchell and Jocelynn Smith have joined our Education Technician Team.
My two daughters went through Fisher Mitchell School, so I know firsthand how fortunate we are to have such a strong pool of  parents and community members willing to give their time and energy to support our students.  If you have the time and the energy, there are many ways for you to volunteer here at school.  The first thing you will need to do is fill out this year's volunteer form.  We need a new form from you each year.
I am excited that the building is again filled with students!  Please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself.  I look forward to working with you all this year.  Students benefit greatly from ongoing communication between home and school, so please don’t ever hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or me with any questions or concerns.  Together we can make this a successful year for all of our students.
